We just wanted to answer some of the many enquiries The Emakoko has received regarding the precautions we are taking to ensure the safety of our guests during the COVID pandemic. We are confident in our ability to offer you you an enjoyable, relaxing and safe stay during your visit. The following highlights the measures we have in place that will keep you and our staff safe during your stay.
Our location, as anyone who has stayed with us will know, is extremely remote and the lodge layout ensures that social distancing is easily achieved.
We are a small lodge on the border of Nairobi National Park which consists of 10 rooms and a private house with two bedrooms; it’s own swimming pool and a private kitchen. At full capacity the lodge can handle 28 guests at one time. For the time being though we have closed down some rooms in order to maintain social distancing and so are operating on less than 70% occupancy.
Anthony and I own and live on the property, and all of our staff are housed on-site. They are with us for 6 weeks at a time. Unlike other hotels in Nairobi, our team do not go home after each shift and are not exposed to outside influences. In order to get to us, the only way in and out is now through Nairobi National Park.
Everyone that enters Nairobi National Park has their temperature taken and are registered for contact tracing. No one can come into the park - and therefore come to us - without passing the temperature test.
The following is the detail of the precautions we are taking to ensure the safety of our guests.
Please forgive us for no longer shaking your hand!
On arrival at the lodge and after each game drive you will be given a towel to freshen up with. These towels are washed before each use and scented with a natural disinfectant. There is a bar area but we encourage our guests to not sit at the bar where possible. Lawrence and the team will serve you where ever you chose to relax in the lodge.
The Emakoko main area is an open airy and informal environment. There is outside dining (dinnertime only) and inside dining, but the dining area is open and airy as only 50% of the room has walls.
Each booking table is spaced 2 meters apart. Lunch & Dinner is plated and there is a buffet breakfast served by one of our team, along with a choice of a hot plated meal. Staff wear face masks and wash their hands regularly.
All food is prepared in a highly sanitized area, and food is handled by food handles only. High touch surfaces are sprayed and wiped after each use .
Rooms are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected after each use. Our room staff use gloves when cleaning rooms. High touch surfaces are disinfected regularly throughout your stay.
The Private House is a two bedroom house where guests can be completely private and not have
to see other guests. The house comes with a private chef and waiter / room steward. The house has its own private pool and mess / bar area.
As per the rooms, the house is cleaned thoroughly after use and high touch areas disinfected throughout your stay.
The Emakoko is now operating on an exclusive use of vehicle basis per group. Your booking now includes your own private driver guide and vehicle.
Each vehicle comes with sanitizer and is cleaned daily. Guides wear masks.
All high touch surfaces are disinfected before each transfer or game drive. Each booking is allocated the same vehicle throughout their stay which is cleaned regularly.
We believe that we are in a unique position to offer you a worry-free few days at the lodge. We would like to invite you to book some time with us so that you can experience isolation in an exciting and satisfying way. Please contact us if you would like to stay or if you have any questions.
We look forward to having you here,
Anthony & Emma
